Will my super stretch the distance?

A quick, no-signup estimate. Punch in your numbers below and we'll tell you — in plain English — whether you're on track for the kind of retirement you'd like.

Your situation

Combine all your funds. Round to the nearest thousand.

Employer contributions plus any salary sacrifice or after-tax top-ups.

A reliable car, private health cover, regular leisure, one domestic trip a year.

Advanced — investment return & life expectancy

Your estimate

There's a gap to close before you stop work.

Super at age 67

$713,003

Sustainable income

$45,646

about $878 a week

You're tracking to about $45,646 a year — roughly $6,439 short of a comfortable retirement. Contributing an extra $8,753 a year for the next 9 years would close the gap. The Age Pension may also help.

What we've assumed

  • 6% a year average return on super (before retirement)
  • 2.5% a year inflation during retirement
  • Drawdown lasts from age 67 to 90 (23 years)
  • Lifestyle targets based on the ASFA Retirement Standard (single)
  • Age Pension, tax and personal savings outside super are not included

A rough guide only — not personal financial advice. For decisions about your situation, speak with a licensed Australian adviser.

The Transition

Retirement isn't a date. It's a phase.

We recommend walking through the toolkit in three stages — starting roughly two years out from finishing up work.

  1. 1

    Audit what you've got

Start with the Super Tracker and Budget Planner. Get one honest picture of your balances, your spending, and your runway. Knowledge is the antidote to anxiety.

  2. 2

    Claim what you're owed

Work through the Pension Workbook to understand the assets and income tests, and prepare your Centrelink application before you draw down personal savings.

  3. 3

    Plan the first move

Whether it's the big lap, a sea change, or just more time in the shed — use the Travel Planner and Estate Organiser to set concrete plans for your first six months.

Common questions

Plainspoken answers to the questions we hear most.

When can I access my superannuation?

Most Australians can access their super once they reach preservation age (between 55 and 60, depending on when you were born) and have retired, or unconditionally at age 65 whether you keep working or not.

How does the Age Pension assets test work?

Centrelink assesses what you own — excluding your principal home — to determine your fortnightly payment. Thresholds differ for singles, couples and homeowners. Our Pension Workbook walks you through it line by line.

Should we downsize the family home?

Downsizing can free capital and you may be able to contribute up to $300,000 each into super through a downsizer contribution. Weigh it against the impact on the Age Pension assets test and your day-to-day lifestyle.

What about a Transition to Retirement (TTR) strategy?

If you've reached preservation age but aren't fully retired, a TTR pension lets you draw from super while continuing to work part-time. Our Super Tracking templates include a TTR cashflow sheet.

Is this financial advice?

No. Everything here is general information and organisational tooling. For decisions about your personal situation, please speak with a licensed Australian financial adviser, accountant or solicitor.
